Portal Respublika, known for its independent and impartial perspective on political processes that take place in Kazakhstan and the Central Asian countries, has for the entire duration of its existence been experiencing mass hackers’ attacks.
Initially, the portal tried to repel attacks using its own resources. However, by 2009 the attacks became especially intense and refined in nature. From that moment on the portal initiated search and selection of professional participants of the market of information security on the Internet.
However, this process has proved to be not so straightforward. Some of the companies specializing on defense against the DDoS attacks refused to provide their services to the portal, once they learnt about the level and intensity of attacks. The thing to remember is that in some cases the attacks against Respublika resulted in websites of their other clients going off line. Eventually the companies became partners of the portal, they tried to defend the portal, but after a while they had to admit that they had failed.
In the meantime the intensity of the attacks increased, and they became more varied. According to a multitude of experts the attacks, which Respublika has faced, have been among the most powerful on the web in the last eight years. For instance, in the course of one of the attacks at the beginning of September 2010, 50 million inquiries per second were registered. The experts, having analysed the magnitude, intensity, and the cost of the attack, concluded that there was “a war going on with the aim of the total destruction” of the portal Respublika.
In this situation the portal turned to addressing the world leaders on the market of defense against the DDoS-attacks. However, even some of them could not guarantee solid defense against such attacks, whereas the offers of others often meant considerable financial investments on the part of the portal. It was explained that these enormous investments were necessary for purchasing additional equipment that was necessary for repelling such intense attacks.
In this difficult time for the portal, an offer from Black Lotus came in unexpectedly. The offer was radically different from all that came before. The main issue was that the company could confidently guarantee complete security from hackers’ attacks. As proof of their words the specialists from the company presented a comprehensive and clear plan of defense against the on-line attacks.
Several days after starting cooperation with Black Lotus, the attacks on the portal again intensified. However, for the first time since the spring of 2009 these attacks have failed to gravely interrupt the work of the portal. Then the attacks became unnoticeable to the portal and to its readers. We signed up with Black Lotus a month ago to help us defend against an attack we experienced (our first time).
